Spending woes

I was looking over my visa bill today and was frightened by what I have bought in my last 2 months.
October
* Madra doll
* 2 Ragnar prints from House of Secrets
* 2 concert tickets for Pink Martini
* 3 things from BlackLilypie
* pre-ordered a Ray Caesar book

November
* a whole bunch of Lip Service tops off Ebay
* Another Alice pullip of the Queen

Eek, a lot of money spent. I gotta try and be good now.

Reacher + BW movie!

2 days ago I finished reading "Bad Luck and Trouble" by Lee Child, the latest book in the Reacher series. I really enjoyed this one a ton! When one of his old army troop friends is found dead, Reacher and the rest of their old team get together to try and found out who did it because Nobody messes with the special investigators!. That sounds like something from an old Hard Boys book. Hehehe.

Last night I watched an old black and white movie called Horror Hotel. It's from 1960 and plays out like one of those old DC romance/horror comics! The main character, Nan Barlow is played by a very gorgeous actress named Venetia Stevenson. She is sent to the mysterious town of Whitewood MA to research witchcraft by her sinister professor who is played very a rather young Christopher Lee. Whitewood has an ancient history of witchcraft and in present day is very foggy and riddled with stern, suspicious people. The proprietress of the local inn is kinda scary herself! Nan's brother and her groovy boyfriend go search for her in the town when she fails to call them within 2 weeks of her arrival there. It wasn't all that scary at all but it was very fun to watch!

Chimneys

I've been reading The Last Generation for the last 3 days or so. It's very doomsday in nature. The first chunk that I read talked about these "chimneys" in the Greenland Sea which is between Greenland, Iceland and Norway. These chimneys are these giant whirlpools about 10 kms across that take water at the surface and funnel it down about 3 km to the sea floor! Peter Wadhams, a UK scientist spotted about 12 of them when he first sighted them, but last time he got out there, there was like 1 1/2 left, the 2nd one not even reaching the surface anymore. Craziness!

Just imagine being one of the few people in the world who has seen one things!! I wonder if you woulda been in danger of having your boat sucked into it if you got too close. Certain doom for sure :|

Library fun!

Today I made a trip to the public library. I seem to be having a women and world doom kick going right now! Here is what I got:

* Islam, Women, and the Challenges of Today (by Farzana Hassanshahid)
* The Last Generation: How Nature Will Take Her Revenge for Climate Change (by Fred Pearce)
* the Invisible Sex: Uncovering the True Roles of Women in Prehistory (by J.M. Adovasio)
* The Ruby Way: Programming in Ruby (by Hal Fulton)

Ok, the last one is just me being curious about all this hype with Ruby. I am intrigued!
